Mission Statement 

The purpose of this organization is the preservation of significant historic structures in Saltsburg's downtown historic district and the promotion and development of the historic past and economic future of this small town.

Current Projects
Patterson Grain Mill built in 1912


In 2013, this building was recognized as an "At Risk" property by Preservation Pennsylvania


Townspeople, Inc purchased it in 2015 to save it and to serve as an anchor restoration project to help revitalize the Saltsburg business district


Accomplishments:

-Replaced deteriorated roof members

-Installed new metal roof and gutter system 

-Replaced some flooring on the first floor

-Re-established a canoe/kayak rental in adjacent addition

Necessary Next Steps:

-Repair/Replace exterior cedar siding

-Preserve existing grain milling equipment for viewing as a museum setting

-Renovate the exterior of the canoe/kayak addition

-Attract and provide space for new small businesses and artisans

McIlwan Storefront and Warehouse built in the 1850's 


This building was purchased from Saltsburg borough to preserve and restore it. Townspeople, Inc received a matching grant from Preservation Pennsylvania to stabilize the structure and develop plans to revitalize the building.


Accomplishments:

-Reinforced the structural integrity of the building

-Reconstructed the original storefront facade

-Applied new cedar siding to the front and western side of the building

Necessary Next Steps:

-Complete installation of new cedar siding on the back and eastern side of the building

-Install new windows on the remaining three sides on the building

-Prepare all interior finishes for future public use
